A person's expertise, turned into a platform.
An independent lecturer came to me through a recommendation. She was fully booked, turning students away, and burning out. The demand for what she taught was real – the problem was that everything ran through her, personally, all the time.
Everything she knew was locked inside her schedule. She needed a platform.
The subject was a demanding one – a hard discipline that takes time, consistency and patient guidance to learn properly. The students were often older, less comfortable with technology, and needed material that didn't overwhelm them. The platform had to meet them where they were: clear progression, no steep learning curve, nothing that made the learning harder than the subject already was.
I designed the full experience from the ground up. The content architecture was built for digestibility – material broken into logical steps, each building on the last, with nothing assuming more than the student had already covered. A messaging system let students ask questions from anywhere in the platform, with enough context attached that the lecturer could see exactly where in the course they were and what they were looking at. Students got the support they needed. She got her time back.
The financial model was also mine to design. I worked through the monetisation architecture, paywalls, pricing structure, experimentation points – applying modern recommended patterns on customer acquisition. The goal was a product that could sustain itself and grow, not just one that worked technically.
The platform is live. It's taking off. The lecturer can take on more students than ever before – without taking on more of herself.
